The Dangers of Distracted Driving

We are all aware of the dangers of driving distractedly, especially texting while driving. We live in a world where we depend so heavily on communicating through our phones, or interacting with our devices, that the idea of putting our phone away sometimes can cause anxiety to some. Most people can not last five minutes without checking their phone, and this includes while driving.

According to The National Safety Council, 1.6 million crashes each year are caused by cell phone distractions. In addition to, texting while driving is 6x more likely to cause an accident than driving drunk. Not only that, but 11 teens die each day because of texting while driving.

As cars keep adding in internet features, text message reading options, and speak-to-text options, we are only putting a band-aid on the issue.

So how do we change and remind ourselves of the risks we put others in based on our actions? Education. It is important as adults we lead by example. The amount of times I've looked over and witnessed someone texting while actively driving is amazing, but all it takes is seeing someone else do something to encourage it with others. Teens need to know of the dangers and brutal outcomes of their actions, so parents please encourage your children to drive responsibly and allow them to understand how their actions can quickly take a life.

Take the pledge with us to not text and drive and please promote it to your friends and family. One simple message is not worth your life.
